How Much Radiation am I Getting at the Dentist's Office

In the office of Dentist San Francisco Mina Levi, DDS, we take digital x-rays for our patients. A full mouth set of x-rays (18 total) is usually taken once per 3-5 years, but a small set (6 x-rays) is usually taken once per year to follow the health of the teeth and make sure cavities are not forming or growing. A popular concern that we hear in the office is how much radiation the patients are exposed to during these x-rays. The following chart is to show the amount of radiation in the dental office in comparison to amounts of radiation exposure from other sources:

As you can see from the chart above, dental x-ray radiation exposure is less than that of the background dose received on a normal day.
